Good morning Pie Talk… viewers! Did things do as expected? Not exactly. The goose I planned to roast turned out to be a duck, Alison Roman’s stuffing was yummy but next year I go tradish, and did I smoked up the barn with a bunch of burnt butter? I did! And yet! All was a delight, including Coco Welch, seen here, instigating not one but two baking excursions, one completely on her own and from her head, a buttery shortbread-y cinnamon-y cookie that was scrumptious. We also made (and consumed) the bourbon-caramel sauce with pecan pie from two episodes ago and can report, it did not disappoint. There was a light show in the next town over, Pine Plains, featuring trucks and boats and muscle cars tricked out with a gazillion lights, several games of Scrabble, and a few (as Matt called them) “proper drinks” last night by the fire. (1 part Carpano Antica vermouth, 3 parts Sazerac rye, 2 ice cubes).
As for Coco’s money pitch, I promise to split any new paid subscriptions with her.
Here’s hoping you are having leftover pie fort breakfast. We are xx
