Hollywood's biggest night is an argument for cultural appropriation. Plus former Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin in legal trouble, and Matt Taibbi gets scorn (and love) for uncovering inconvenient truths
I subscribed to Racket after hearing Sarah's endorsement of it during this episode, it's very good! I've been a casual listener of Useful Idiots for a while so I was familiar with Matt Taibbi, but Matt and Walter's new show is excellent.
Partial ditto, with the point being a full second thanks-ing to Sarah for the Taibbi nod. I've been carrying around a bit of guilt for years now for finding Useful Idiots tedious the couple times I put it on, and losing the motivation to keep trying. Sarah's endorsement of his other work made me realize it might not be a slog to try and enjoy Taibbi content more generally.. in fact it could still be the opposite, ie a joy to enjoy it! I've just finished a couple Racket articles that easily redeemed him for me, and I'm looking forward to evaluating his podcast w/Kirn as well!
Btw tho, journo-babes, (I understand and sympathize with the tagline change but presumably your listeners can still use the term if done so with love and admiration!), I just want to clarify that the above was only one of the many, many things that made my heart swell during this episode. Just the first thing it was easy to piggyback on commenting.
I owe you a proper love letter because this podcast would easily be the frontrunner for months if I were to chart how often all my subscriptions made me want to shoot off flares of gratitude for all the revitalizing moments of much-needed compassion, good-hearted but still truly hilarious snark, and mind-expanding thoughtfulness. UGH I JUST LOVE getting the opportunity to spend time in the peanut gallery of your relationship, whether that's during a conversation about fcking dead chickens or anything less serious :)
I feel like that last sentence accidentally excluded some of the solo content (Smoking Diaries, PieTalk) which I now feel compelled to clarify I also completely adore and treasure.
UGH WE JUST LOVE HAVING YOU THERE. And we will always "journo babes," particularly somewhere in cyberspace, where the tagline stubbornly won't change. -- SH

You Gmail account seems not to be working.
Actually, that was a pilot error. I had the email wrong (duh). It's smokeempodcast@gmail.com. It's been fixed in both files. -- SH
Thanks. Check your email for an incredibly thoughtful note from me...(!)
It was indeed incredibly thoughtful! -- SH
Tell me more. This is the first I've heard of it. I got an email through it yesterday. -- SH
