Binged The Bear so glad I did. Jeremy Allen White is excellent. I worked in a restaurant for 6 years in my teens to early 20s until I got a “real job”. It was frantic, romantic, fun hilarious and good money.
The kitchen was wild… although I was a server, there was a certain comfort and more hilarity in going on in the kitchen, away from the customers/crowds. Terry was the prep cook. I loved him but he was married. Pete was the weekend prep cook. He loved me but wound up dating my best friend. They both cooked me whatever I wanted on break. So many characters. Anyway now I want to visit “773” that part of Chicago. And it was Noma where Carmy worked.if you have never watched Girls you may want to watch the episodes with Desi (Ebon) he’s completely different in that.
Haven’t watched the documentary on psychedelics yet but I do know ketamine infusions saved someone I know with medication resistant depression. This was a good episode! Thank you both!!
SPOILER ALERT (Don't read if you haven't watched the show) I listened to this episode two days ago, and then binged The Bear in two nights. Although I've been in NorCal for 7 years, my hometown is Chicago, and this show made me so homesick. This show was hard to listen to a lot of the time, but was too good to stop watching. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, NR and SH! (One question I had when I finished it at 3 this a.m., and then when I woke up, is how the hell did Mikey seal all those tomato cans? Don't scold me, I know it's a dumb question when there's so much more about the show to digest, but...)
Didn’t Mikey have the cans sealed at the mysterious company he paid 330000 to per his ledger? He took the 300000 and used the 30000 to get the cans sealed with the stash in them ?
I binge-watched the last 4 episodes yesterday and was wondering the same thing about the tomato cans. Wondering if that is a thread that will be explored in Season 2.
Those last two episodes -- #7 is shorter than usual, with all the in-kitchen chaos, and the last is extra long.
As someone who has been looking for good shows to follow, I'm glad to have heard about this one.
I should be prepping bedrooms to paint as we prepare for becoming foster parents in the nearish future, but I started watching The Bear last night and continued this morning, and am now hooked. Been a while since I watched something this binge worthy.
I’ve never been a big jalapeño fan but I might have to give that guac recipe a go.
Your article made me think of a younger 2nd cousin who has wanted to be a professional chef since she was a teenager and/but struggles mightily with addiction. Her life is one of the messiest I’ve seen of an addict trying to get clean. She’s encountered many set backs staying clean and getting her career going, but every time she falls back, she rallies again, determined to get clean and be successful in the kitchen.
I LOVE a lot of jalapeño in mine (standard Texas guac recipe is the same as Nancy’s) but I’ve made it for people who don’t like jalapeños or find them a little hot by substituting green chili peppers or even poblanos and it’s still good! The fresh pepper flavor is the most important part. I’d sample peppers till you find your favorite and just use that one.
My preference is to let the avocado flavor come through instead of the pepper hotness, but that's just me. Avocado is pretty good all by itself, maybe with some lime.
I am a 55 year old woman who has been boy crazy since 1973 but I think I am falling in love with Nancy.
I will make the guacamole tonight!
I am making the guac this weekend! Notice you don't use a mixer... I like it chunky myself. We need cookie recipes too NR. :)
Yes to cookie recipes please!
Will share!

I love that you noticed the different episode lengths (I didn't!) and love that they did it! That's letting the story lead you rather than vice versa
Yes that's exactly what I wondered too!
