Good morning pie people! This tart, another Alison Roman recipe, is without doubt the one I make the most all summer, in fact all year. There are reasons: it requires only one bowl, takes two minutes to make with no more equipment than a spoon or your fingers, and is foolproof, seriously, you cannot mess this one up and it smells amazing and everyone will ooh and aah and you will receive multiple marriage proposals. Okay maybe not that last, though I have twice received said same after serving different men apple sour-cream pie with a walnut crust. Was it me or the pie who knows who cares food is love etc. etc.
I recorded this Pie Talk inside Paloma studio, which we started building out in January 2021.
It’s swanker now, lots of art of the walls, more booze (!), and many many super-bright and interesting people in and out since then, recording with The Fifth Column and Ask a Jew and whatever jackassery Matt Welch and I are up to and of course, with your humble Smoke ‘Em hostesses, a short list of which includes Alison Roman, Nick Flynn, Jon Ronson, Ben Smith and Steve Kornacki… all of whom I have fed pie to!
