Good Sunday morning, Pie Talk listeners! Don’t know what to make for dinner? Go grab some salmon, so delicious, so forgiving, not crazily expensive. My favorite fish might be Chilean sea bass but man, I’m not paying $36/pound for it. In LA I used to get it at various Asian markets for about $9/pound, and I’ve seen it here in Chinatown for about that much, but I’ve been a little hesitant, as the fishmongers near me are almost all open air on streets that are, well, somewhat less than appetizing. I’m probably being overcautious, as much of the seafood is ridiculously fresh, as in, still living… and sometimes making a break for it!
Want hear me read about my visit with serial killer John Wayne Gacy on death row just before his execution? You can!
Or you can read it. Here’s the barmaid at the bar Rick and I drank at while waiting for the prison to allow us to visit. Rick and me on the right, the prison-made cigarettes Gacy gave us below.
But I digress! More salmon talk, plus the location of my fave new NYC bar after the break. If you have not yet finished (or started!) your holiday shopping, we can help!
