Cats are alternately overhyped and underappreciated. Kings of viral media, but they’re relegated to walk-on cameos in literature and cinema. I didn’t used to like cats (I wanted a dog), but life throws curve balls. These days, I’m a true-blue Cat Lady. History has not been kind to my type; we’re apparently meant to dodder into old age collecting strays (not true for me) and covered in cat hair (occasionally true for me). But cats are cool and mysterious, independent and cuddly at once. Don’t get me wrong: Dogs are awesome! They do what you tell them to do. They need leaders. Not cats. Cats are their own — umm, what’s the word? — person.
Today’s audio diary tells the story of the first cat who stole my heart, Bubba.
