It was 5:08am on May 31, and your narrator was on a high and windy balcony in an undisclosed location (OK, it was Dallas), and it was time to talk about female friendships. This question had come in from a listener:
What advice do you have on female friendships, and how often do you reach out to your friends? (I have close, lifelong female friendships, but I'm not always good at reaching out, and I wonder about your thoughts on deepening friendships and how you approach showing up for others.)
Boy did this listener come to the right place. So many thoughts.
Although this Smoking Diary was recorded a few weeks ago, it’s an interesting counterpoint to this week’s pod with Mike and Milo Pesca, wherein we discuss male bonding, women and their endless need for chit-chat (guilty), and intimacy in general.
Today’s solo audio ramble covers: “girls vs. women,” boys and their hobbits, sleepover chit-chat, sharing clothes, insane female jealousy, what happens when your friends get married (and you don’t), how children can change female friendships, dude friends and their movie recommendations, and all the people who teach us how to love.
NOTE to our sensitive-ear listeners: This pod is chock-a-block with ambient audio! Passing cars, rolling thunder, morning birds, but most remarkable / annoying is the rather jarring sound of wind rustling for much of the hour. Nancy and I tried to get this out, but unfortunately it exceeds our technical ability. I contemplated dumping this audio for that reason, but decided to let it fly anyway. Forgive me!
