I’m only at the halfway mark so can’t comment on how to fight back, but can say there were experiments with text-based conversations with AI as far back as the 60’s by a German working at MIT, Joseph Weizenbaum. He later regretted his experiments because he witnessed how easily people believed they were interacting with a real person and how that technology could be used against them.
